The Father of Mind & Body: Maharishi Patanjali
" Yoga is the cessation of the movements of the mind. Then there is abiding in the Seer's form."
Maharishi Patanjali was a sage in ancient India, he has composed many Sanskrit works, the greatest of which is the Yoga Sutras, which is a classical yoga text. It is said that Patanjali was born in the second and third centuries AD. It is also believed that he used to live in Kashmir, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
Although it is claimed that earlier sages lived for thousands of years, they had the boon of euthanasia. He could live and die according to his wish. The guru of Maharishi Patanjali was Panini Ji, and he wrote the Yoga Sutras only by staying with him, the Yoga Sutra is one of the most important texts in the Indian tradition also called the foundation of Indian Yoga. In the medieval era, this book was translated the most, into forty Indian languages.
The Yoga Sutras by Patanjali, commentary on Ashtadhyayi, and treatises on Ayurveda. Raja Bhoj called him the doctor of the mind as well as the body, which is evident from this verse.
योगेन चित्तस्य पदेन वाचां मलं शरीरस्य च वैद्यकेन। योऽपाकरोत्तं प्रवरं मुनीनां पतञ्जलिं प्राञ्जलिरानतोऽस्मि॥
Translates to; Yoga (Yoga Sutra) for purification of mind, Vyakarana (Mahabhashya) for speech purification, and Salutations to the sage Patanjali, who gave medical science (Charakasamhita) for body purification.) In the second century, Patanjali, the author of ‘Mahabhashya’, was a resident of Kashi Mandal, and he wrote as Ashtadhyayi of panini.
There are many rumors of his birth, and Patanjali is considered the incarnation of sesh nag. 196 mudras have been saved in his book, there was yoga even before this, but he drove yoga out of superstitions and religions, and made efforts to increase mental strength along with the body. It is said that between the 12th to the 19th century when business was more important in the world, yoga disappeared for about 700 years.
